Bergsig Wine Estate | Breedekloof

Bergsig Wine Estate is situated in the Breede River Valley. Bersig Estate Wines is a family owned farm and has been in the Lategan-family since 1843, when our original patriarch, Willem Hendrik Lategan made a decision to start a life here at the foot of the mountain.

This is where the Drakenstein and Hex River Mountains meet, creating such scenic surroundings that the farm was named “Bergsig”, meaning “mountain view”.

WINES

Bergsig Wine Estate has a selection of wines under the following wine ranges:

•Bergsig•
A tradition of quality enhanced by generations of winemaking such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer, Rosé, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, Noble Late Harvest, Cape Ruby (Port)

•Reserve•
All wines matured in 300l first fill barrels. This range consist of 100% single varietals. Rich, complex with excellent bottle maturation qualities. They have a Reserve Chenin Blanc and a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

•Icarus•
The Icarus range. Named after the soaring mythical Greek character, the label is a reflection of the mountain peaks that surround the estate, the Lategan family’s passion for flight, and the driving pursuit of excellence that pervades Bergsig’s wines, from vine to bottle. The Icarus blends represent the pinnacle of blending craftsmanship in the Bergsig wine portfolio. The Icarus White is a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Riesling in perfect harmony. The Icarus Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional.

Lategan Reserve Wines•
The Bergsig Estate Reserve Collection celebrates the unique Lategan family history, dating back to the early days of wine in the Cape of Good Hope. Padmos celebrates the sailing ship that brought the first Lategan to the shores of South Africa, launching a Heritage continued by other Lategan family, like Tant Anna, a Lategan great grandmother, praised by lady Anne Barnard in her diaries as a women of exceptional style and spirit and Oom Prop Lategan, a visionary farmer that guided Bergsig to becoming a prosperous estate with innovation and creativity.

•Springroll Tasting•
Three unique flavours are paired with three wines.

The first Springroll is a Spicy Jalapeño and Fig filling, paired with a Sauvignon Blanc 2019. The figs compliments the crisp nose of the Sauvignon Blanc. With the creamy base, green flavours of the wine it pairs brilliantly together. The fig cuts through the crisp, dry flavours of the Sauvignon Blanc.

The second Springroll is filled with Chicken and Vegetable, paired with a Wooden Chsrdonnay 2016. The Chardonnay is wooded for 9 months. It has complexed flavours with a beautiful caramel and citrus on the nose. The chicken in the springroll is lightly fried and enriches the caramel and citrusy flavours of the Chardonnay.

The third Springroll is a perfect traditional Bobotie Springroll, paired with Pinotage 2016. It is a beautiful sweet and spicy combination that pairs perfectly.
