In 1969, Seymour Pritchard acquired a 10-hectare farm known as Malvern Heights from Colonel JW Billingham, who had named it after the picturesque hills surrounding Malvern in England, his birthplace. Fast forward to the mid-1980s, when Seymour turned his attention to winemaking. At that time, France held a prominent position as the heart of the wine world. Inspired by the French influence and the farm’s homestead, which bore resemblance to a Clos in France, Seymour decided to infuse a touch of “French Flair” into the name, hence renaming it Clos Malverne.
The winery itself is a blend of contemporary architecture and rustic charm, seamlessly blending into its surroundings.
