Springfield Estate | Robertson

Springfield Estate is set in the heart of Robertson. The Bruwer family farm is owned by ninth-generation descendants of French Huguenots and this farm has been in the family since 1898 carrying forward traditions that are as timeless as the soils the vines are grown in.

The estate greets you with a beautiful surroundings. The dam is shaded by trees and sets a peaceful town that flows into the tasting room where elegance and charm create a sense of place. The wines tell the story of Springfield’s philosophy of patience and respect for nature.

Garuzis Brut NV is their refreshing take on Cap Classique made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It’s made in the traditional method and aged for 30 months before degorgement. Crisp and zesty.

Life from Stone 2024 is a Sauvignon Blanc and reflects its name perfectly. Grown in rocky soils, this wine is flinty and vibrant with a mineral character.

Special Cuvée 2024 is their Sauvignon Blanc vines
from 35-year-old vines rooted in sandy alluvial soil. A more complex wines with tropical fruit characters and summer charm.

Miss Lucy is a wine Springfield is known for. Named after the endangered Red Stumpnose fish. This wine is made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Gris. A delicious wine that is bright with a complexity that lingers.

Albariño 2024 is a Spanish cultivar and not a very known cultivar in South Africa and Springfield has given this cultivar a voice in the heart of Robertson. A beautiful wine bursting with flavours of nectarines, apricots with a lovely acidity.

Wild Yeast Chardonnay 2023 is a wine fermented in underground cement tanks using natural wild yeasts. It offers tropical fruit notes with a delicious creamy mouthfeel.

Méthode Ancienne Chardonnay 2021 is French for “ancient method” or otherwise known as the Burgundian Method. Barrel fermented and left 12 montns on the lees and bottled unfiltered, unfined and unstabilised. This is a wine with character and Chardonnay being showcased in its purest form.

Thunderchild 2023 is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and is a wine with a heart. Made from grapes grown from an orphanage in Robertson and produced by voluntarily winemakers and sold in aid for the children.

Whole Berry Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is made with uncrushed bunches and natural fermentation, aged for a year in oak barrels. The result is velvety with soft tannins and classical Cabernet poise.

Work of Time 2019 is a Bordeaux Blend that lives up to its name. Whole berry fermentation and was left for 5 weeks on skins then spent 2 years in barrels and another 4 years in the bottle. The patience shows in the wine with layered richness and elegance.

Méthode Ancienne Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
A powerful wine intense in colour and flavour, this wine was vinified naturally with no crushing of berries, no additives and unfiltered. It was kept for two years in the best new French-oak barrels and the result is an intense powerful wine.

At Springfield Estate time is key and nothing is rushed. Time is treated as the finest ingredient allowing the patience in barrel ageing, the quiet years of bottle maturation or the natural pace of fermentation to take centre stage. Their wines showcase that beauty comes from allowing nature to take its course and they have surely mastered the art of letting time do its work.
