When it comes to wine, the taste, the bouquet, or simply the wine-drinking experience itself can elicit a memory of a time or place.
Unlike any other beverage, wine tends to “soak up” the earth. What you drink reflects the environment, the climate, and the geography of the land from which the grapes are harvested.
Recently Vinimark showcased a selection of wines at the Trade & Media Wine Fair. Vinimark is the largest independent wine specialist company in South Africa, distributing and marketing more than 50 of our country’s best-known wine brands as well as a number of imported sparkling wines, Champagnes and Proseccos.
Each year Vinimark and their wine producers embark on a national road show showcasing their wine portfolio to trade and media in key centres around South Africa.
ALTYDGEDACHT – SAUVIGNON BLANC 2019
Classic Durbanville Sauvignon. Minerally feisty green pepper with touches of guava on the nose with excellent balanced acidity, more quaffable style. Great everyday enjoyment at a great price.
The wine has a straw-coloured hue. Due to differential picking, the grapes imparted a whole spectrum of flavours to the wine, ranging from greenpepper and green figs to passion fruit and guava. Tropical fruit dominate on the palate. An inviting wine to be enjoyed generously on its own or as an accompaniment to fish, sushi, poultry and a range of vegetarian dishes.
ALTYDGEDACHT – MUSKARADE 2018
Elegant, attractive aromatic semi-sweet blend of Muscat d’Alexandrie and Riesling, lovely aroma of flowers – Lillies, Rose Petals, with a good limey acid balance – delicious with spicy foods and someone preferring something a little sweeter.
Semi-sweet blend of 65% Muscat d’Alexandrie, 25% Gewürztraminer and 10% Weisser Riesling. A delicate, fruit-laden wine expressing cultivar characteristics of its components – leechie, rose petal and perfumed flavours, layered with a hint of spice. Refreshing on its own, this wine will make the ideal partner to spicy dishes.
REYNEKE – BIODYNAMIC RESERVE WHITE 2017
This wine has a fresh and lively nose, with layers of granny smith apple, elderflower, citrus peel and flintiness. The palate is fresh and steely, with great fruit concentration and complexity. This wine has good texture and is well balanced, with a long finish.

At the same time it is complex and layered with fruit and some floral notes which provide good texture and a lingering finish.
REYNEKE – BIODYNAMIC CORNERSTONE 2016
This classical Bordeaux style blend combines freshness with a real intense concentration showcasing the best of Stellenbosch. The wine presents with perfume, cassis, dark fruit and spicy nuances. Undertones of tobacco leaf and blackcurrant are what ads more to a defined graphite minerality. This wine has a lovely balance, with structured tannins, which are linear and focused.
BOSMAN – UPPER HEMEL & AARDE SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018
This cool climate area showcases character of kiwifruit, gooseberries, fresh passion fruit, flint and fynbos, ending with zesty freshness. Vibrant green heart with lime green rim. Beautiful mouthfeel with a long persistent finish.
BOSMAN – NERO 2017
The only South African produced Nero D’Avola in the world. A fruit-driven, elegant wine with subtle, supportive oak. Flavours and aromas of dark-skinned berries and plums are enlivened by delicate perfume and grounded by juicy, sweet tannins.
LISMORE – ESTATE RESERVE CHARDONNAY 2017
This Reserve Chardonnay shows intense citrus, stone fruit, jasmine and walnut layered with honey and vanilla carried by a distinct minerality and crisp acidity with a lingering citrus finish.
SHANNON – CAPALL BAN 2016
The focus of this wine is based on a vineyard components arising from unique low yielding Table Mountain Sandstone soils. The Semillon leads with distinctive musky nose combining ginger, quinine, lime zest, cardamom in a minerally and flinty style. With barrel maturation on the lees, this provides a fuller mouth feel and adds to the complexity of the wine.
The component of Sauvignon Blanc’s role is to provide substantial aromatic lift and introduce a nervous edge to the wine. This wine was vinified in a style that enhances the aging potential of a Bordeaux style white blend and should drink beautifully after about 3 years of bottle maturation.
SHANNON – ROCKVIEW RIDGE PINOT NOIR 2017
This wine expresses a range of flavours from vibrant cherry, raspberry, black currants, to liquorice and cinnamon.
Considerable emphasis is placed on vineyard site selection and identification, within the variations of three basic components of the soil: clay, sand, and stone. These are expressed in a range of flavours from vibrant raspberry, strawberry, currant and cherry.
SHANNON – MOUNT BULLET 2016
The wine has a fragrance of ripe red fruits such as plums and dark cherries, with earthy complexity and yet still expressing minerality. Maintaining a good acidity lends to outstanding freshness with a well integrated ripe and seductive tannin structure. Incorporating a minimal winemaking intervention approach, such as natural ferment and only two “punch downs” daily, retains silkiness and elegance.
DE KRANS – TOURIGA NACIONAL 2017
The wine has a vibrant deep plum colour, with dense aromas of chocolate, spice, pepper, a touch of vanilla and prunes. It has a fleshy, chewy mouthful of flavours. The firm tannin structure, together with the concentrated fruit, ensures excellent maturation potential. This wine, which is the flagship dry red wine from De Krans, is bottled in an elegant bottle, with the label screen-printed directly on the bottle.
DE KRANS – TRITONIA 2016
Dark plum red colour. Full fruit flavours of Raspberry, prunes and mulberries with hints of dark chocolate and spice. Savoury and fine-grained structure, lovely integrated wood and a delightful elegance.
GROOT CONSTANTIA – LADY OF ABUNDANCE 2017
This new blend shows beautiful complexity. Ripe plum and red cherry flavours combine with a hint of fennel and careful use of oak. The variety of fruit follows on the palate and is framed by a fine tannin structure. A blend of Pinotage, Shiraz, Merlot & Grenache.
BOLLINGER – ROSÉ NV
This refined rosé shows verve, offering finely meshed flavors of dried black cherry and pomegranate fruit, with notes of almond skin, gingerbread, honey and candied orange zest. A vein of smoky minerality gains momentum on the lasting finish.
BOLLINGER – SPECIAL CUVÉE NV
A golden colour, distinctive of black grape varieties and very fine bubbles. Beautiful aromatic complexity with ripe fruit and spicy aromas and hints of roasted apples, apple compote and peaches. On the palate a subtle combination of structure, length and vivacity. Bubbles like velvet with pear, brioche and spicy aromas, notes of fresh walnut.
RUSTENBERG – MALBEC 2018
Rich aromas of blackberries, cassis, eucalyptus and dark chocolate follow through to a smooth palate that is both balanced and wellrounded with fine grained tannins. This wine can be enjoyed now or will benefit from maturation in ideal cellar conditions.
DARLING CELLARS – GUSTUS BUKETTRAUBE 2018
This expressive wine deserves your attention due to its aromatic array of different flavors of peach, pear and fynbos notes followed by dash of floral and aniseed spice undertones. This wine has a crisp and refreshing mid palate with a lingering mouthfeel.
MURATIE – LAURENS CAMPHER 2018
A seamless blend of four varietals to create a uniquely South African wine honouring one of the country’s wine pioneers. Lively fresh lemon and lime notes from the Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc are given added interest with fragrant floral hints from the Verdelho and Viognier components. On the palate, the wine is elegant and complex with flavours of honeysuckle, lime marmalade and fresh almonds, all wrapped in creamy oak. Zippy acidity runs through the wine until the eminently satisfying, lengthy finish.
