Maastricht Wines | Durbanville Wines

Durbanville wine farms offer some of the best views of Table Mountain available, an excellent backdrop for tasting some top quality wines. Situated in the Durbanville area is where you would find Maastricht Wines.

The clay-rich soils around Tygerberg collects water during the cold and wet winters in Cape Town. Maastricht is located close to the Atlantic Ocean. The cooling wind coming from the ocean provides a balanced microclimate, perfect for the viticulture of Maastricht wines.

This beautiful farm greets you with a winding flower-filled pathway, vineyards and hills to complete the backdrop. Maastricht has been owned by the Louw family since 1982.

The farms’ name originated from the first settlers searching for fertile land with the ambition to establish agriculture close to the Cape Colony to supply the Dutch East India Company on their own ward journeys. Looking at the clay soils, they were reminded of the soils of their hometown – Maastricht – hence the name.

What used to be an old barn has now been converted into a beautiful tasting room. Some light meals or snacks with cheese and charcuterie platters are available for purchase at the tasting room.

With a delightful bright salmon colour, this Cap Classique is encased with delicate bubbles and a persistent mousse. ?The wine displays enticing aromas and a bouquet of fresh strawberries, sweet raspberry and red cherry aromas. Followed through to a crisp and refreshing palate with refined bubbles.?

A balanced palate with a variety of citrus and tropical fruit that lingers and supported by a beautiful refreshing acidity.

Rose gold in colour with notes of pomegranate, cranberry with nuances of candy floss and floral notes add to the complexity of this wine.

Red fruits and a touch of black cherry, combined with hints of toasty elegantly soft tannins and a big, juicy mouthfeel rounding off the wine.

The nose shows hints of the spicy characteristics and complemented by dark berry fruit flavours. Extremely elegant and well balanced with flavours of black cherry and red berries. Beautifully structured and integrated with soft tannins for a smooth, silky finish.

The nose shows spicy aromas, complemented by coffee, dark chocolate and cigar box notes. Dark berry fruit, cherries and spice follow through on the palate. This is a full bodied wine with soft, but firm tannins, giving a balanced mouth feel and long finish.
