Stettyn Family Vineyards | Unpretentious but Passionate

There’s always a vineyard to be explored. While Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are the most well-known of the Cape Winelands, the wineries in the Worcester area are also definitely worth a visit.

Worcester is surrounded by impressive mountains. Mysterious yet eerie in some ways, but these towering rocky peaks captivates you creating a beautiful backdrop and giving the entire area an unmistakable beauty that draws you in and make the trip worth the drive.

Stettyn Family Vineyards is set on the slopes of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains between Worcester and Villiersdorp. A spectacular way to get there has to be over Franschhoek Pass. You will definitely be rewarded with beautiful vistas, a fantastic view over Franschhoek valley, plenty of pretty endemic fynbos and dramatic mountain gorges.

Stettyn Family Vineyards also has a newly renovated tasting room. Extensive vineyards are surrounded by majestic mountains, which one can admire from the front porch of their tasting room. The renovated area is elegant and displays modern touches with a strong emphasis on comfort. It’s spacious and you have the option to sit inside or outside under the trees and umbrellas.

The farm on which Stettyn Family Vineyards is situated, is steeped in history and tradition dating back to 1714. In that year, Governor Chavonnes of the Dutch East India Company ceded the original farm to Free Burghers Cloete and Radyn, whose ancestors originated from the Stettin area in the former Prussia. The Cape Dutch homestead which dates back to 1777, was the original house occupied by the first permanent settlers. It was restored and is now a National Monument.

The Botha family acquired Stettyn in 1818, and the farm has been in the family for eight generations now. The extended family has been making wine here since 1963, with the vineyards of Stettyn, Jonkersrivier, and De Hoek being the primary sources of production and where the tradition of winemaking dates back many years.

Wine has been produced on their individual farms since the late 1800s up until the 1950s, whereafter resources were pooled to build a modern cellar with the first wine being produced in 1964. The centralisation of local winemaking together with improved facilities resulted in a significant improvement in wine quality.

Stettyn has the following wine ranges: Stone Range, Stettyn Family Range, Signature Range and the Ayana Range and you have the option to choose White Wine Tasting, Red Wine Tasting and Ayana Tasting.

The Stone Range takes its name from the old stone watermill that was built in 1895, which stands sentinel over the winery where Stone Wines are produced.
