A trip to Robertson wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Robertson Winery. Named after the town itself, it is renowned for crafting wines that delight both the palate and the wallet, boasting a diverse array of award-winning wines that reflect the region’s richness and diversity.
Situated in the scenic Robertson Wine Valley, this co-operative winery was born in 1941 through the collaboration of a few different wine farms, each contributing their finest grapes. Originally focused on bulk wine, Robertson Winery transitioned into a consumer-oriented brand in 1984.
Their ethos of ‘More to Share’ extends beyond exceptional wines. Robertson Winery champions sustainability, seamlessly blending tradition with modern techniques, yielding superb wines while honouring nature. Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, earning them accolades both locally and internationally.
At the winery, explore their full spectrum of wine brands, from entry-level delights to flagship treasures, all available for tasting. Pair your glass with their delectable Cheese and Meat platters, while kids can enjoy themselves on a climbing structure outside.
During our recent Media Trip to Robertson Winery, we tasted a few wines from their diverse range. We tasted from their versatile Winemaker’s Selection, the robust and food-friendly FAT bastard range and the prestigious Constitution Road collection, showcasing their top-tier craftsmanship.
Robertson Winery Sauvignon Blanc 2023
A refreshing wine showcasing vibrant fruit notes of passion fruit and green apple. With its well-balanced acidity and pleasing structure, this wine is perfect for any occasion, promising a delightful drinking experience.
FAT bastard Chenin Blanc 2023
Subtly influenced by oak, this wine presents delicate aromas and fruity flavours. Upon the first sip you experience the juicy essence of yellow peach intertwined with a hint of vanilla, resulting in a refreshing finish highlighted by tangy notes of fresh citrus.
Constitution Road Chardonnay 2022
This Chardonnay stands as both their flagship and sole single vineyard offering, crafted in a traditional style and matured in french oak. This Chardonnay offers a blend of citrus, buttered toast, marmalade and vanilla arimas that blend together nicely. Its lively acidity balances the creamy texture when you taste it, revealing layers of citrus, pear, and a hint of butterscotch that linger in your mouth afterward.
FAT bastard Pinotage 2022
This wine is aged for 15 to 16 months in barrels. Its fruit-forward nature shines through from aroma to taste, showcasing ripe dark fruit flavours complemented by hints of mocha and dark chocolate. The wood and tannins are well blended, adding to its overall harmony.
Robertson Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Slightly wooded and rest of the wine in stainless steel tanks with staves in it. It’s a delightful everyday wine with flavours of mulberry and blackcurrant, complemented by gentle tannins. Smooth and perfectly balanced, it leans towards a fruity, medium-dry style rather than bone dry, offering a soft and pleasant finish.
Constitution Road Shiraz 2021
This wine has rich aromas of plum, and black berries that envelopes warm spice aromas and a hint of dark chocolate. The ripe dark fruit carries from the nose to the palate, leaving a lingering finish. This wine was carefully aged for 16 months in barrels, enhancing its depth and complexity.
When you plan your next wine adventure, don’t forget to add Robertson Winery to your list. With its family-friendly atmosphere, authentic country charm and just a 2-hour drive from Cape Town, it’s a destination worth exploring any time of the year.
