A trip to Robertson wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Bon Courage Wine Estate. This place is a wine lover’s paradise and it was the perfect starting point for our Taste the Tradition weekend. First things first, we decided to fuel up at Café Maude, a cosy restaurant located right on the estate. Picture this, you’re sipping your coffee or enjoying a glass of wine under the shade of a grand old African pepper tree. Yes, it’s as dreamy as it sounds!
Café Maude offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but the outdoor space? That’s where the magic happens! You’ll be treated to stunning views of the estate while relaxing in a serene atmosphere. Their menu is a treat for the senses. From mouthwatering breakfast dishes to light meals, salads and flatbreads and if you’ve got a sweet tooth, I highly recommend grabbing a slice of their cake paired with a steaming cup of coffee. We indulged in some delightful Bobotie cigars, crispy Arancini balls and cheesy, melt-in-your-mouth cheese balls, all perfectly complemented by a glass of Bon Courage’s wine.

The best part? Café Maude offers a farm-to-table experience, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients that showcase the best of the region. Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed brunch or a leisurely lunch, you’re in for a culinary experience that pairs perfectly with Bon Courage’s fantastic wine selection.
Outside, the estate buzzes with life. Picture groups of friends lounging with glasses of wine or Cap Classique in hand, families enjoying picnics on the grass and kids running around, laughter filling the air. The setting feels like something out of a postcard.

And let’s not forget the history! The estate’s stunning Cape Dutch homestead dates all the way back to 1818. For nearly a century, Bon Courage has been lovingly run by three generations of the Bruwer family and their dedication is evident in every sip of their award-winning wines.

Speaking of wines, Bon Courage boasts some of South Africa’s finest! Their premium Inkará range is a true reflection of the terroir, crafted from hand-picked grapes. The Cap Classique Jacques Bruére range is equally impressive, with options like Brut Reserve, Blanc de Blanc and the stunning Cuvée Rosé Brut. Meanwhile, the Bon Courage Estate Wines are the heart and soul of the estate. It’s elegant, full of vibrant fruit flavours and consistently top-notch. And if you’re in the mood for something playful, the Like Father Like Son range offers a delightful Chenin Blanc, Rosé and a juicy red blend that’s perfect for early enjoyment.
Whether you’re searching for your new favourite bottle or just want a beautiful place to unwind and sip on some fine wine, Bon Courage Wine Estate is the place to be. After all, great wine tastes even better when shared with great company and at Bon Courage, you’ll find plenty of both.
