Soul Barrel Brewing Company | Where Beer is Made with Soul

Have you been to Soul Barrel Brewing Company yet? Just outside of Franschhoek in the heart of the Cape Winelands, you will find a brewery that is as full of life as the beers they create.

The setting alone is worth the visit. The brewery is build inside the old tank walls of the former Drakenstein Cooperative Winery. After the winery closed in the mid-nineties, the space was used for bulk wine storage until Soul Barrel Brewing Co. transformed it into a vibrant, creative brewery. The old concrete tanks now form part of their identity, giving the brewery a sense of history and charm that’s bard to find somewhere else.

Founded by Nick Smith, who moved from the soulful streets New Orleans to the Mother City. Soul Barrel was created with the belief that real beer is made with soul. The team is dedicated to brewing artisanal and innovative beers that capture the spirits and flavours of the Cape. Each brew tells the story through local ingredients, hoppy ales, traditional barrel fermentations with quality in every sip of beer.

The Taproom and Beer Garden are where the magic continues. Relax with a freshly poured pint and experience something new to taste, from small-batch creations to limited releases. Intimate brewery tours and guided tastings offer a deeper look into the process, the people and the passion behind the brewery.

When hunger strikes, the menu delivers comfort and flavour with pizzas, burgers, calzones and loaded fries. There is also plenty of space for kids to play, making it a great spot for families and friends to gather.

You will find Soul Barrel Brewing Company on the R45 in Simondium between Paarl and Franschhoek. Keep an eye out for the two big barrels on the roadside and follow them to one of the most soulful beer destinations in the Cape Winelands.
