Oneiric Wines – Elegantly Elgin

The Elgin Valley is the natural home for lovers of fresh food, cool-climate wines and beautiful country living. It’s a bowl surrounded by mountains and a lush garden valley only 45 minutes from Cape Town.

Oneiric – a beautiful wine farm with the most gorgeous view of the valley is tucked away in the Kogelberg Biosphere in Elgin. This is a family owned wine farm that has been in ownership of the Pascall family since 2007, not farming with grapes initially.

What makes the Oneiric wines so special is their distinctive labels and variant names, inspired by copper derivatives and sulphites, which create the ‘stand-out’ metallic look. The labels incorporate copper oxide/malachite, chalcopyrite, azurite, cuprite, and chalcocite. 

O N E I R I C pronounced Oh!-ne-rik “to dream”  is exactly that a hidden gem nestled in the heart of the cool-climate Elgin Valley. In recognition of the families many generations of mining stock, the Pascall’s decided to play on a Copper theme, with each varietal’s label playing on a different copper derivative; from Chalcopyrite/Fools Gold and Malachite to the rich blue of Azurite.  The labels are striking and stand out on any wine list.

Following on from the success of the more serious Oneiric Copper label, the Oh! label was introduced.  A fun label playing on the first syllable of the word Oneiric; a lighter body compared with the same cultivates bigger Copper brother.

OH! SAUVIGNON BLANC

A classic example of an unique expression cool climate Sauvignon Blanc. An elegant, fragrant wine, with concentrated acidity, intensity and freshness. Citrus, orange rind with hints of white peach and flower blossoms with a grapefruit pithiness. Lovely minerality.

OH! CHARDONNAY

A delightfully crisp and elegant chardonnay that over delivers on the palate.  Fresh sea breeze, citrus pith and a velvety butter backed by well integrated-soft oaking.  A perfectly balanced wine with seamless integration of all components.   Oneiric produces white wines which are beautifully balanced on both the nose and the palate.

OH! SYRAH 2012

Deep inky ruby colour Nose starts of quite fruity, with red and dark berries (cherry, black currant and blackberry) and then gets supported by some spice notes. It follows quite nicely to the palate which has a fantastic mouth feel to it.

ONEIRIC CHARDONNAY

The golden yellow of the Chalcopyrite, a copper sulphide ore, sets off the warm glow of the Oneiric Chardonnay. Delicious nuttiness and aromas of butterscotch and fine oak. A white with texture and an elegant long finish.

A magnificent farm that produces 6 varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz/Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a blend.
