Tokara’s flagship red, the much-lauded Director’s Reserve 2018, has attained Double Gold at the 2021 Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits awards.
This is the second Double Gold medal for the 2018 vintage of the Tokara Director’s Reserve Red after the wine excelled at the Gilbert & Gaillard International Challenge in France earlier this year.
The accomplished wine commentator and UK Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, also singled out the 2018 vintage as a Wine of the Year with a score of 95 points in his South Africa 2021 Special Report.
Atkin describes the Director’s Reserve Red as ‘delivering the goods,’ adding that this medley of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec has ‘lovely freshness and flavours of balsam, blueberry and coffee bean.’
Crafted by winemaker Stuart Botha, the Tokara Director’s Reserve 2018 is a proudly Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend from the farm’s prized vineyards on the slopes of the Simonsberg.
