Stellar Results For Van Loveren At Michelangelo

It was a night to remember when Van Loveren Family Vineyards was awarded no less than nine awards at the 2022 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. The highlight of their evening was for the Christiena Chardonnay 2022, which was awarded Platinum.

Double Gold was awarded to the Christiena MCC Brut 2021, with Gold going to the Van Loveren Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Retief Reserve White Blend 2021, Van Loveren African Java Pinotage 2021, Zandvliet Hill of Enon Shiraz 2019, Christiena Syrah 2019, Absolute Zero Dry 2021 and Absolute Zero Nectar 2021, respectively.

The awards were announced at a gala event on 2 September in Cape Town, which was attended by the who’s who of the wine and media fraternities. This year’s competition received over 2 000 entries judged by 24 international and six South African wine and spirits experts, representing 22 countries. The judging panel included sommeliers, wine and spirits producers, educators, spirits experts and influential journalists from Europe, the Far East and the Americas. This year the judges awarded 25 trophies, three Special Awards, 13 Platinum medals and 146 Double Gold medals.

These awards received for Christiena, our premium wine range is a great honour and we are extremely pleased with the results. This represents a culmination of our long-term vision and strategy to focus on vineyard selection, techniques and site-specific blocks, with the end goal of premiumisation and producing quality wines” says Van Loveren MD, Phillip Retief
