On the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains and in the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ is where you would find Alto Wine Estate. Positioned on the northern slopes of the Helderberg, this farm is perfectly tailored for red wine production. However, its remarkable diversity adds a layer of complexity, resulting in an array of captivating flavours in the vineyards.
Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2022
Alto Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé offers a delightful sensory experience. A beautiful pale pink hue that catches the light, inviting you to explore its refreshing character. Delicate aromas of ripe strawberries and hints of floral notes, like rose petals, mingle with subtle herbal undertones.
Crisp and lively on the palate with flavours of fresh red berries and a touch of citrus, balanced by a zesty acidity that adds a refreshing bite. Fermented for 6 months in stainless steel tanks. The finish is clean and lingering, leaving a lingering impression of summer fruits and a subtle minerality. This Rosé is a vibrant and elegant wine, perfect for sunny days and relaxed gatherings.
Alto Rouge 2020
Alto Rouge enjoys immense popularity in South Africa and is often lauded as a quintessential red wine from the region. It serves as an excellent everyday wine while also possessing remarkable ageing potential.
The Alto Rouge includes five varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Shiraz. The blend varies each year, with each varietal harvested and fermented separately for 7 days. Subsequently, they are combined in French oak barrels (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) for 18 months.
Its alluring aromas feature dark berries, plums and cherries, together with hints of tobacco and a touch of vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate, it boasts a full-bodied profile with layers of ripe black fruit such as blackcurrants and blackberries, with spice nuances like cloves and a subtle hint of dark chocolate. The wine concludes with a long and gratifying finish, showcasing its depth, elegance and lingering notes of fruit, spice, and a gentle earthiness.
Alto Shiraz 2018
A bold Shiraz with personality with inviting aromas of blackberries and plums mingle with hints of black and white pepper, adding a spicy allure. When allowed to breathe for 5 to 10 minutes, crushed red fruit flavours emerge, enhancing its complexity.
Flavours of ripe black fruit, including blackberries and plums, complemented by the subtle warmth of black and white pepper. The additional layers of crushed red fruit add a delightful dimension to the wine. This Shiraz undergoes a 10-day fermentation on the skins in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in French oak barrels (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) for 18 months. Smooth and velvety tannins contribute to a pleasing mouthfeel, balanced by a well-integrated acidity.
Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Enticing aromas of red fruit and dark berries greet the nose, accompanied by a subtle hint of fynbos, adding a unique and intriguing element to the wine. The palate is lush and full-bodied, with flavours of ripe red fruit, such as cherries and raspberries, together with notes of dark berries like blackcurrants and plums.
This Cabernet Sauvignon underwent a 10-day fermentation on the skins in stainless steel tanks, followed by an 18-month agring process in French oak barrels(1st, 2nd, and 3rd), contributing to its depth and complexity.
Alto Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautifully crafted wine that combines fruit-forward flavours with a hint of herbal complexity, making it a perfect choice for those who appreciate a well-rounded and elegant red wine.
Alto Estate Blend 2018
The nose is greeted with a concentration of dark fruit, including blackberries, plums, and blackcurrants, intertwined with the freshness of red berries. A subtle hint of spice and oak adds complexity to the aromatic profile. This wine showcases a rich and full-bodied palate, with a seamless integration of flavours from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Ripe dark fruit notes dominate, complemented by the brightness of red berries, creating a well-balanced and captivating taste experience.
Each varietal was ripened and fermented separately, allowing for optimal expression of their unique characteristics. The wine was then aged in 70% new barrels for 18 months, enhancing its structure and adding subtle oak nuances, leading to a wine with smooth and velvety tannins.
Alto M.P.H.S 2017
This wine is the pinnacle of the Alto range, a flagship release made in tribute to the estate’s previous winemakers since 1919, whose initials make up the name. Manie Malan, Pieter du Toit, Hempies du Toit and Schalk van der Westhuizen.
Deep, rich purple colour with dark fruit Cabernet Sauvignon with elegant red fruit Cabernet Franc notes dominate the nose. Well integrated wood spice. Powerful elegance for a great vintage. Well balanced fruit, structure and acidity.
