Chef’s Table Lunch | The Farm Eatery on Diemersdal Wine Estate

Situated in the picturesque Durbanville Wine Valley, The Farm Eatery at Diemersdal seamlessly blends the flavours of the countryside with a relaxing farm ambiance, all within an old stable lovingly restored by the Louw family, who have been crafting wine here for six generations.

Opened 12 years ago, this eatery has become a beloved gem in the Durbanville Winelands. Chef Martin De Kock brings a diverse range of dishes to life, drawing inspiration from his extensive training and experience in the culinary traditions of France, Spain, Portugal and the East.

Every dish at The Farm Eatery is crafted from the freshest, farm-grown ingredients, curated with expressive combinations that make each one a story unto itself. The Chef’s Table Lunch is a delightful journey through various sharing dishes served over three courses.

We began with the Bread Course, featuring a delectable salted rye honey bun and focaccia, accompanied by a vibrant chimichurri and paired perfectly with Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2024.

Our First Course was a selection of mouthwatering dishes. A Yellowfin Tuna Taco, topped with pickled ginger, cucumber, spring onion and togarashi was a burst of fresh flavours. A rich bowl of Jerusalem Artichoke, layered with gruyere, macadamia, bone marrow and crispy toppings, offered a comforting depth. The Mussels were a highlight, served in a bowl brimming with passionfruit, fried curry leaf, lime, fenugreek, garam masala and chili, perfectly paired with Diemersdal Grüner Veltliner 2023.

The Second Course continued to impress. Crispy fried Patagonian Squid, enhanced with bonito mayo, spicy lime dressing and radish, was a delightful starter. The juicy, tender Sirloin, sliced and topped with potato skin espuma and smoked Stanford cheese, served alongside shallot and truffle, was a savoury delight. The Duck, juicy and perfectly cooked, accompanied by fermented currants, beetroot and a rich jus, was irresistible. These dishes were beautifully complemented by Diemersdal Private Collection 2022 and Diemersdal Pinotage Reserve 2022.

We concluded our meal with a decadent Dark Chocolate Pavé, elegantly served with passion fruit, hazelnut praline, crémeux and baked milk, providing a perfect ending to a remarkable dining experience.
