About Sótano
At the heart of Sótano are co-owners Brendon Crew, Jean Muller and Marc Langlois, whose culinary passion is fuelled by annual travels to Mediterranean hotspots like Barcelona and San Sebastián. These vibrant cities inspire Sótano’s distinctive creations, bringing a slice of coastal Mediterranean living to Cape Town’s shores.
Brendon’s Lebanese roots, Jean’s French flair and Marc’s Mauritian heritage each play a role in shaping their approach to food as they believe where every meal is about bringing people together. Their menu is designed for sharing, showcasing the Mediterranean ethos of simplicity, authenticity and community.
Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even just sunset cocktails and small plates, Sótano delivers.
A Feast for Every Palate
Sótano offers something for everyone. Sushi aficionados will be spoiled for choice, from classic rolls to inventive signatures like the Sakura Crunch Roll. It’s prawn, salmon and avocado wrapped in perfection, finished with a spicy chilli mayo and kimchi dressing. Pair it with a crisp glass of De Wetshof Limestone Hill Chardonnay and you’re in heaven.
Seafood lovers will swoon over the Grilled Patagonian Calamari, served with baby spinach, lemon butter, red chilli and saffron-infused rice. Fancy something indulgent? Don’t miss the Baked Feta Prawns in garlic butter with freshly baked ciabatta for soaking up every last drop.
Meat-eaters, fear not! There’s plenty to tempt you too! The Lamb Burger, Chicken Parmigiana and Sirloin on the Bone are all bursting with flavour. And if you’re craving comfort food, the Spanish Paella is like a warm hug in a bowl, brimming with saffron rice, chicken, chorizo, seafood and a heavenly white wine broth.
If you’re a wine lover, don’t miss the Cult—SÓTANO’s very own family wine, a special creation from the Franschhoek Valley. It pairs perfectly with any dish on the menu, adding that extra touch to your dining experience.
Desserts to Die For
No meal is complete without something sweet and Sótano’s desserts are the perfect finale. The Crema Catalana, a citrusy Spanish twist on crème brûlée, is as light as it is luscious. And the Burnt Basque Cheesecake? Sheer perfection! It’s airy, slightly caramelised and utterly irresistible.
Interiors with a Splash of Charm
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The airy, light-filled space is adorned with a shoal of fish art and sea-urchin-inspired pendant lights. Prefer to dine alfresco? The outdoor seating area offers the best views of the promenade and ocean, making it the ideal spot to soak up the view.
Doggy Delights
Furry friends are welcome too! Sótano goes the extra mile with a dedicated “Fur Babies” menu, featuring treats like beef stew and sausages, plus comfy pillows for your pet to lounge on.
The Verdict
With its versatile menu, generous portions and vibrant ambience, Sótano is a spot that truly showcase seaside dining at its finest.
