Super Single Vineyards | Every Wine Tells A Story

At the far end of Stellenboschkloof Road, just before you reach De Morgenzon and Jordan, lies Super Single Vineyards. Set off the main path, this delightful farm shares its historic grounds with Canettevallei Lavender, located along the “Ou Kaapse Hardepad” the original road to Cape Town.

Dating back to 1682, this picturesque estate is home to a boutique vineyard specialising in single-vineyard wines, as well as fields of fragrant lavender.

At Super Single Vineyards, the focus is on capturing the essence of the land. Their wines highlight the unique qualities of each vineyard, with every bottle showcasing the beauty and diversity of the Stellenbosch region.

The tasting room, set in a cosy converted outbuilding, overlooks a peaceful dam with breathtaking mountain views. It’s an ideal spot to enjoy superb wines while soaking in the tranquil surroundings.

The Coastal range is produced under the Pella label. The name “Pella,” derived from Latin, means “a place of many people together,” showcasing the harmonious balance of terroir and vines. These wines are made from vineyards located in South Africa’s Coastal Region. The emblem features a cross, creatively formed from the letter ‘P.’

Super Single Vineyards Pella Koueveld Albarino 2024

Expect a pale straw-yellow hue with greenish tints, an aromatic nose of citrus, peach, candied orange and floral notes and a crisp, zesty palate with bright acidity and hints of saline minerality. Medium-bodied with a refreshing, lingering finish.

Pella White Granite Sémillon 2024

Sourced from a single vineyard located near the top of Stellenbosch Kloof, adjacent to the Ou Kaapse Hardepad. The vineyard benefits from a cool, Atlantic-influenced micro-climate, with soils composed of decomposed white granite and sandstone. This wine features crisp acidity, with vibrant citrus and melon aromas, complemented by a waxy texture that is harmoniously balanced by the fresh citrus and melon acidity.

Pella Kanniedood Chenin Blanc 2023

Sourced from old bush vines and “Kanniedood,” which translates to “can’t die,” describe the harsh conditions this vineyard endures to thrive. These grapes receive meticulous care, with hand harvesting and a yield of only 5 tons per hectare. Fermentation occurs in French and Hungarian oak barrels, where the wine is aged for 8 months. The result is a wine with rich layers of citrus, peach and apple blossom, complemented by a buttery mouthfeel and elevated by refreshing acidity.

Pella Thomas se Dolland Pinotage 2021

The grapes are from old bush vines that was established in 1960. The vineyard was named after Thomas, who worked the soil with only horse and plough, his tenacity lives on. The vineyard is Atlantic influenced and has a cool micro-climate. Coffee Stone with pot clay soils. It spent 14 months in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels. Intense aromas of raspberries, mulberries and ripe plums. An elegant wine with a lengthy finish.

Pella Die Hang Sangiovese 2021

This vineyard only yields 3 tons per hectare, resulting in highly concentrated fruit. Situated where both Atlantic and Indian Ocean breezes meet, the vineyard allows the grapes to mature gradually, reaching full intensity. Aged for 15 months in third-fill French oak, this wine is lean and savoury, packed with flavours of mulberries, dark cherries and plums, complemented by subtle hints of oregano that enhance its savoury profile. It features firm acidity and a lengthy finish.

Pella Oukliprant Malbec 2020

This wine is named after the “Oukliprant,” meaning “old stone ridge,” where the vineyard flourishes alongside Acheulean tools dating back over 40,000 to 100,000 years. Located in a cool microclimate with deep, weathered granite soils, the vineyard benefits from the presence of these ancient artifacts, adding minerality to the wine. Harvested periodically to ensure fermentation occurs with ripe tannins, the wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels. It reveals layers of black cherry, pomegranate and plum, with a soft, velvety texture, complemented by gamey and cocoa undertones.
