Schenkfontein is a family-owned and operated private cellar situated near Piketberg in the Swartland. We were very privileged to be part of the launch of their latest creation, their first Cap Classique. Truida is named after a family matriarch and made exclusively from Chenin Blanc, proudly complementing their premium range.
Only 2,000 bottles of this special wine are available, primarily through the estate’s online store.

“For Schenkfontein, it has been a long-time dream to bottle this exceptional Cap Classique. A sparkling wine that embodies Granny Truida’s perseverance, keen eye for quality and roll-up-your-sleeves, do-it-yourself mentality,” says Hendrik Hanekom. “This wine, like Granny Truida’s uniqueness, will linger on your lips for a long time and enchant you.”
“We are incredibly excited about Truida’s arrival,” says Jurgen. “It took some time, but she is finally here. The wait was worth it!”

As the matriarch of the Hanekom family, she left behind many treasures, such as her sourdough bread recipe, sharp sense of humour and words of wisdom.
Granny Truida was the anchor of the family farm during a time of great change, including the decision to establish a winery. Grandpa Hennie and his men even built a cellar themselves, igniting the spark that set Schenkfontein’s winemaking journey in motion.
