A different kind of tasting unlike the usual wine tasting experience. Have you ever done a water tasting? At first it sounds curious because isn’t water just water? That question is exactly where the fun begins.
Situated within the beautiful Lanzerac Wine Estate, you will find The Fine Water Company. The world’s first water tasting room and a place that loves to challenge everything you thought you knew about water. Step inside and you are greeted by s show stopping wall of waters collected from all corners of the world. Suddenly still or sparkling feels far too simple.

The Fine Water Company was founded by Nico Pieterse, an experienced entrepreneur and certified Water Sommelier. Nico is one of only a few certified water sommeliers worldwide and one of just two in South Africa. He travels the globe, tasting and selecting exceptional waters and brings the best of them back home. Along the way he shares what to look for on the back of a label, why minerals matter and how water cab be both delicious and good for you.
This is a one of a kind tasting that plays with flavour, texture and mineral richness. You taste your way through waters from pristine natural springs, unique watersheds and even city sources and discover how origin and mineral content shape character and mouthfeel. It is fascinating how something so familiar can suddenly feel brand new.
There is no right of wrong when it comes to water. You can drink any water with any food, but once you start pairing, you will notice how some waters complement certain foods better than others. The same goes for wine. Certain waters can bring out unexpected flavours in a wine, enhancing its character and making each taste a little more interesting. It becomes a playful game of siscovery and everyone finds their favourite combination along the way.

The whole experience lasts around 45 minutes and is packed with interesting insights. You learn how to read labels correctly, understand expiry dates and appreciate what is really in your glass. The sommelier explains the unique mineral compositions, sources and origins of each water and how these characteristics impact taste, texture, and hydration.
It is an informative experience that comes highly recommended. If you are looking for something different and genuinely enlightening, this is your sign to try this water tasting for yourself. Come thirsty, leave curious and possibly a little obsessed with water.
