A Chef and Chocolate Entrepreneur Open Stellenbosch’s Newest Family Fun Destination

The ArtiChoc Creative Café is finally the ‘something different’ locals have been looking for as the Winelands’ resurgent post-CV-19 economy makes way for new avenues of family entertainment.

The Café’s launch coincides with the anticipated three-week second term school holidays, leaving parents with a myriad of crafty options to keep the kids busy (and away from the digital screen).

Booked activities during this period include chocolate-making tutorials, instructor-led crafts, painting and food making workshops. Wine, coffee, and tea pairings are offered for the more relaxed vacationer. Walk-in options include breakfast and lunch, and weekly happy hour specials. Visitors can also drop-in for a couple of hours of laid-back creativity while painting functional glass items, ceramic figurines, T-Shirts or Canvases (no bookings required). Family activities price from R100 per/person.

Situated on the Stellenbosch Vineyards premises just outside town, the Café is the brainchild of two food and chocolate-loving entrepreneurs, Nini Jerman and chef Norman Human.

After the initial Stellenbosch Vineyards’ longstanding restaurant, Swirl, and Bus Stop venue closed its doors before the pandemic, Jerman and Human took to revitalising the abandoned site, turning over a new leaf after the worst of South Africa’s state of disaster. They opened The Winston & Julia Chocolate Shop and Ceramic Café earlier in 2022 which later shaped the concept of the ArtiChoc Creative Café.

For Jerman, sole owner of the Winston & Julia Chocolate label, the Café epitomises the ‘magic’ of family, and how creativity can bring people together. “Making chocolate and magic not only entices the senses but also celebrates the coming together of friends and family, especially after a time where people were forced to live within their four walls,” says Jerman. “We wanted to create a welcoming eatery combined with an activity hub where the entire family can have fun and safely engage with each other and different people.”

Artichoc Creative Café is at the restaurant section of Stellenbosch Vineyards (first exit at the traffic circle on entering the premises), R310 Baden Powell Drive, Lynedoch, and is open in winter Wednesday to Thursday 09:00 to 17:00 and Friday to Sunday 09:00 to 18:00.
