The Marine Hotel is joining forces with Upper Hemel-en-Aarde winery Newton Johnson Family Vineyards in showcasing the bounty of the Overberg during an exclusive Food & Wine pairing dinner on Friday 4 August 2023. Managing director and co-founder Bevan Newton Johnson will present six of their wines paired with a 5-course dinner prepared by Head Chef Oelof Vorster, hosted by General Manager Michel Bouic.
On arrival canapés will be served in the Sun Lounge, enjoyed with the Newton Johnson Albari?o 2022 as welcome drink. Once seated, the dinner will begin with Artichoke risotto with tempura globe artichoke petals, parmesan and truffle, paired with Newton Johnson Southend Chardonnay 2022; followed by Cucumber carpaccio with smoked hake, burnt orange segments and aioli, served with Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Chardonnay 2022 as hors d’oeuvres.
Main course includes two dishes, starting with Confit duck leg with potato fondant, orange and red cabbage and raspberry jus, meeting its perfect match with the Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 2022. Grilled free range beef rump follows, served with grilled and crispy leek, salsa verde and pickled turnip, perfectly paired with Newton Johnson’s exclusive Single Vineyard Windansea Pinot noir 2022.
For dessert, diners will be spoiled with Canelé served with roasted apricot and honey ice cream, and White chocolate crumble and fynbos honey jellies, complemented by a glass of Newton Johnson L’illa Noble Late Harvest Chenin blanc 2018, to end the dinner on a sweet note.
